Tarsus is a district and town located in Mersin Province, on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey. It is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the country, and has a rich history dating back to ancient times. Tarsus is known as the birthplace of the Roman statesman and philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero, and is also the place where the apostle Paul was born and raised. The city has a number of historical and cultural sites, including the Tarsus Grand Mosque, the St. Paul Church, and the Tarsus Museum, which houses artifacts from the region's long and varied history. In addition to its historical and cultural attractions, Tarsus is also an important agricultural and industrial center, with a number of crops and products being produced in the area. The population of Tarsus is around 500,000.
